Summer To Do List: Craftroom Curtains

Well it's been a while since I focused my attention on my summer to do list but I finally completed another project.
Yes, shocking I know!
You can check out my complete to do list and all my updates by clicking HERE!

Well here they are in all their fabulous glory, my new pride and joys of my craftroom.  My new curtains, completely designed and sewn by yours truly.

(Don't you just love the outlet right in the middle of the windows and trim.  I'm not sure who designed that but let me just tell you how difficult it was to cut the trim to fit around it perfectly.)

Okay... back to the curtains.  I had found this gorgeous fabric at Wal-mart of all places a while back and planned on using it for something.  Well I decided to use it for my curtains.  Originally I wanted to use two coordinating fabrics with one color at the top and the yellow fabric on the bottom but I didn't have enough of the other fabric.  I also was planning on making the curtians long enough so if I really had to I could untie them and let them block out the sun.  Well once again I didn't have enough fabric, so I decided to take the best of both ideas.  I created a valance that looks like it is longer because of the blousing from the ribbon ties.  Let me just tell it you it took me a while to finish these because I was only working from my own design in my head and then I ran out of ribbon.  I do not have a tutorial but if you are interested please send me a comment and I'll write a post on it.

Here's the curtain laying out right after I finished it.

Here's a photo of the back of the curtain.  I used plain white cotton fabric to back the curtain to provide stability and privacy.  I also made sure no raw edges were shown because the windows are at ground level and I didn't want anyone seeing unfinished seams.

I also folded over the edges by the curtain loops and where the ribbon attaches.

If I really wanted to, I could untie the curtain and leave it hanging like this.  But I don't think I will because I really like the other look.

Here are a few more shots from both daytime and nighttime.

Don't you just love that fabric!  It goes so well with the blue walls and white trim.  It also is so bright and cheery, you just can't help but smile when you look at them.  I am already finding reasons to go downstairs and just stare at them.
What do you think?  Did I pass the sewing test?

P.S. If you are interested in seeing a tutorial on making these curtains please leave me a comment.  Thanks!

Renovations {Craft Room} Part Two

I am so excited because I took a bunch of pictures of my new craft room and it is soooooooo close to being finished!!!  To see part one of the renovations click HERE!  My husband and I have been working so hard to finish this room during nap times and when my mom is over to watch the little man.  My mom has definitely done more than her fair share of helping as well!!!  Thanks to my very talented father (he actually built my parent's house prior to meeting my mom) we were able to cut and hang most of the crown molding.  Let me just tell you this, I really, really, really, want to own a nail gun.  What a difference this thing makes!  So without further adieu here are some more pictures of the craft room.  Once again the blue paint is Frosty from Valspar and the tan color is Desert Fortress from Valspar.

Notice my pom pom flower in the corner.  Click HERE to see the post!
Love, love, love crown molding!

We covered the cement foundation with wainscoting and created a shelf on top.

Another view of the covered foundation.  Doesn't it look gorgeous!!!

Don't mind the cable cord, I still need to buy a new plate in white!

This is the little alcove by the back door.  The door will be painted white and the thermostat will actually be attached to the wall.  You can also see the stone work for around our wood stove.  Not my favorite and definitely not what I would have picked but oh well!

This side is still unfinished, we ran out of crown molding.

View of the color of the wall.  It really looks like a sand color.

Obviously my room is still a work in progress but it looks soooooooo much better than it did when we bought the house.  I am so pleased with how it looks and I am so excited about finishing it.  Then its decorating time!!!
What do you think so far?

Renovations {Craftroom}

I am soooooooooo excited because my new computer/craft room is almost finished being renovated!  My husband and I have been working downstairs to update and change the 70s wood paneling and dingy wallpaper into a more cozy and bright living space.  Originally we planned to use the downstairs as a family room/play room but realized the two flights of stairs and wood stove would not make a safe play area. So we decided to use the area for our computer room and make our current computer room upstairs into a playroom for my little man. Right now half the room needs one more coat of paint on the trim and then I can clean and start moving things downstairs.  I wanted to show you some before pictures to share the horror of the GREEN wood paneling. YUCK!!!

I was only able to take one picture of the wood paneling because I forgot and by the time I remembered there was only one section left.  Let me just tell you, I was not at all sad to see it go!!!
Here are some of our between pictures where we ripped down all the wood paneling and sheetrock with wallpaper and started putting up new sheetrock.

We live in a raised ranch so our downstairs really is partially underground.  You can see the foundation in the second and third pictures.  I decided to make even the foundation look pretty by covering it with some wainscoting and creating a shelf on the top.

Lastly, I wanted to have a light and bright room so I picked out some colors that reminded me of the ocean.  I absolutely love this blue.  It's from Valspar and is called Frosty!

The other walls are painted a sand color.  I am so pleased with how everything is turning out and I can't wait to share it with you.  I hope to have some more pictures up soon of the completed room as soon as I can finish the last coat of paint!
I can't wait to decorate and spend my time downstairs being creative!

What do you think of my room so far?
